Family Bash Day 2

Day two started with bagels and a lot of strong coffee. After that, we were on to pirate crafts including designing pirate ships and necklaces. Rainer enjoyed the blue glitter glue and created a unique masterpiece. Rebekka and Chris B had rival treasure chests, one IU and one Purdue. After the art, we launched into the most debated part of Family Bash, the treasure hunt. For teams were given a list of items to find. Team 1 made it back with 10 minutes to spare and ended up the winner (with a little help from ChaCha). After the Treasure Hunt, we lunched on sandwiches and fruit and then waterballoon volleyball. Renee and Rebekka suffered injuries brought on by Brent Rice. A lawsuit is pending. Brent thought he was Superman and jumped off the plank into a very small inflatable pool busting a bucket and his ass. After a little relaxing we dressed in our best pirate costumes, made pirate ships out of pantry items and launched them in the nearby lake. Susan attempted to save her ship by physically manhandling JR, but in the end, her boat was doomed. We all headed to Kroger dressed in pirate garb...Wayne kept yelling PIRATES and scared the hell out of the Geist crew. I have to say that those people in Geist don't have a funny bone. I think many of them had their cell phones handy and ready to call 911. After dinner we started the rockband competition-and I have to say that I think that Brian's team (Brian, Lauren and I) got jipped on our song. I sang Should I Stay or Should I Go; Brian covered to guitar; Lauren covered the drums. I think Brian made a mistake in choosing me to sing-I have a horrible voice and yes, I was booed off stage at least once. Rockband winners included Chris B, Brent and Susan (with a little interferrence from Rainer). Then we headed outside for s'mores and a bonfire....late collapsing from shear exhaustion. But hey, we made it through Family Bash 7 with only a few minor bruises and the best part about it is that Gina and Brent are in charge of Family Bash 8!

day 1

Well, Family Bash 7 is off to a great start with a ton of wonderful food including Dad's brisket an Mom's deviled eggs and apple salad. Our newest member, Sophia, was a cutie in her pirate scarf and Rainer enjoyed Great Grandma's toys especially the blue spider ball. Rainer entertained himself by dipping cheddar gold fish into Queso-you can tell he's a Rule. After dinner, we officially launched family bash with a welcome and call to arms from Grandpa, who welcomed the newest members of the family and designated Family Bash coordinators for the next 10 years. After that, I continued the initiation by presenting new members with beautiful garments to wear. Chris B modeled a bright red and white IU vest, Susan modeled a lime green 80s jacket with Thomas Kincaid Fan Club President noted on the back, Chris M. modeled a red plaid moomoo with United Bank of MOM 24/7, and Halie surprised the family by modeling a black tshirt with 'The Rumors are true, I'm pregnant shirt.' We will be welcoming a new family member at the end of March. Then it was off to extreme fishing-4 teams, 4 cane poles and a twist-catch a fish, validate it, pick a bobber (number indicates number of gold coins), choose a GO FISH card, and go again. Team 4 with Christopher Hesch, Brian Rice and Lauren won with 48 gold coins and 4 GO FISH pair. Lauren was chosen to win the immunity award. Biggest Fish Adult went to Ron Lawson again with a 17 1/2 inch bass. In the child category it was a tie between Aaron and Nicholas Lawson. Then we were back to the event headquarters to celebrate Christopher and my birthday. I have to say that the singing was quite painful After cake, ice cream and plenty of candy, we all packed up and went to bed.....Ready for Day 2 of Family Bash 7. Pictures will be posted on Flickr.

Top Ten Pickup lines:)

Top Ten Pickup lines for use on International Talk Like a Pirate Day

(We came up with these in an effort to interest The Other Dave (Letterman) in TLAPD. His staff liked 'em, but alas, his show was"dark" the week of Sept. 19.)

10 . Avast, me proud beauty! Wanna know why my Roger is so Jolly?

9. Have ya ever met a man with a real yardarm?

8. Come on up and see me urchins.

7. Yes, that is a hornpipe in my pocket and I am happy to see you.

6. I'd love to drop anchor in your lagoon.

5. Pardon me, but would ya mind if fired me cannon through your porthole?

4. How'd you like to scrape the barnacles off of me rudder?

3. Ya know, darlin’, I’m 97 percent chum free.

2. Well blow me down?

And the number one pickup line for use on International Talk Like a Pirate Day is …

1. Prepare to be boarded.

Honoring those who are not at this bash

We have lost a lot of family since the first Family Bash-I think it is appropriate to remember them. I will be placing candles on my table with the names of those who are no longer here. We can also post stuff here.

Pappy
Grandma Marcella
Grandpa Roy
Phyllis
Arlen
Grandma Jane
Grandma Nora
and some of our favorite pets

Bring STUFF

If you have stale bread, pantry items, icing, peanut butter-please bring it. Make sure to bring your cell phones-to validate Treasure Hunt items, cameras, video cameras.

Addendum

I am making this change to extreme fishing. Fisherwomen/men-you MAY bring your own fishing equipment to participate in the individual part (biggest fish) of the fishing contest. However, to participate in the individual event you must also participate in the group event. In the group event you must use the equipment provided:)

Also, to add to the stuff to bring-if you have stale bread, cereal, pantry staples, peanut butter, icing....please bring it:)

Can't wait to get this party started:)

Only Six Days Until Family Bash

Can you believe it? Less than a week to go and with that, we have changed the original set of rules for the Rock Band competition. The two categories will be medium and beginner. We nixed advanced when several of our captains complained that they couldn't play advanced for more than a few minutes. You better get your groove on 'cause we got some rockin' to do!

build a pirate ship

We need to build a pirate ship (yes, I know that pirates didn't actually build their ships, they commandeered them), but we need a prop for the Bash. Does anyone have a how to build pirate ship plan handy? This one is a bit pricey-3000 euros!

the treasure hunt

In the past, the scavenger hunt has been quite a bit of controversy-and I'm sure that this year will be no different. So, should we do the video scavenge hunt or the old school (you have to bring it back and have it authenticated). What do you think?

Pirate Names

Chelsea has a good idea-on Saturday eve we put some creative piratey name in a hat-draw two and presto....your pirate name.

This 'Official' pirate name is important because if you call someone something other than their pirate name, you lose one gold piece....

Homage and Initiation

Yes, we are still doing the homage to those who have passed since Family Bash #1. It can be something simple, but I think it is important. Pappy, Grandma Marcella, Phyllis, Arlen, Grandma Jane and Grandma Nora are no longer with us. However, Halie, Susan, Rainer, Sophie, Chris B need to be initiated into Family Bash! I will pay homage to Pappy-one of the 5 most important people in my life. Gina is taking Grandma Marcella, Rebekka is taking Grandma Jane and Nora, Mom and Dad are taking Phyllis and Arlen. I will cover the initiation, since I don't want Brent and Ron taking care of it:)

We will do this on the Saturday eve festivities.....

eXTREME fISHING

and no!, brent cannot put a dead, slimy, bloody fish down my pants! Even if I am winning the fishing contest. This one is a bit dif than the others, no fishing equipment needed.....

Arghhh!

I bought this pattern today-so if you need to sew a Pirate costume, you've come to the right place. Give me a call, and I will let you know how much material to buy or you can find the info at here: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4952.htm?tab=costumes&page=4
